Drilling operations want dry cuttings not only for environmental concerns, but also for economic reasons. Oil-based and synthetic-based drilling fluids are expensive and recycling for reuse is a prudent objective. Also, transportation and disposal of cuttings that still contain drilling fluids are more costly due to increased volume and weight. Options over the years for drying drilling cuttings were linear shakers or Vertical Cuttings Dryers.
Vertical Cuttings Dryers are a necessity for specific industries where increased regulations on cuttings discharge are prevalent. Linear shakers experience more down time and maintenance cost and on average maintain a liquid content of 12% to 16%. A vertical cuttings dryer can reduce liquid content to approximately 5% and historically has less maintenance costs.
IPE has decades of experience refurbishing vertical cuttings dryers from a variety of manufactures. These dryers are becoming more difficult to acquire, but IPE has solid sources that allow cores to be brought into the remanufacturing facility and quickly processed and delivered.
